In this blog, we will guide you on how to set up your Matrice 4 Enterprise or Matrice 4 Thermal drones for their first flight.
The DJI Matrice 4 Series, brought to you by eVerse for DJI India, is equipped with advanced features designed for a seamless flying experience. Here's how to get started with your Matrice 4:
Remote Controller Setup
Upon delivery, the remote controller will be in hybridization mode. Connect the remote controller to the charger using the USB-C to USB-C cable to fully charge it before use. Press the power button once, then press and hold it for three seconds to power it on. Follow the on-screen prompts to activate the device.
Preparing the Aircraft
- Detach the upper part of the gimbal protector from the aircraft, then remove the protective material.
- Open the arms carefully for the first time.
Attaching the Propellers
- The DJI Matrice 4 is equipped with A and B motors. Propellers without a grey circular center should be mounted on Motor B, which has no grey arc on its outer edge.
- Attach a propeller by pressing it down onto the motor mount and rotating it in the direction marked on the mount until it locks securely in place.
Charging and Powering On
For first-time use, insert the intelligent battery into the charging hub. Turn off the hub, connect the charger using the USB-C to USB cable, and charge the battery until the level indicator LEDs light up. Press the power button once, then press and hold it for three seconds to power on the aircraft.
Activation and Initial Setup
- Power on the remote controller and the aircraft.
- Open the DJI Pilot 2 app, where an activation page will automatically appear.
- Read the terms of use, authorize the device information, select the usage scenario, confirm your account information, and tap Activate.
- Tap Enter Camera to complete the setup and follow the app prompts for a quick check.
Flight Preparation
Before take-off, ensure the remote controller and antennas are unfolded. Stand behind the aircraft, maintaining a safe distance of at least five meters, and ensure the aircraft is facing away from you.
Basic Flight Operations
To start the motors, push both the left and right control sticks either inward or outward to their bottom corners. Once the propellers start rotating, gently push the left throttle stick up to manually take off.
- The left control stick adjusts the altitude and nose direction.
- The right control stick controls forward, backward, left, and right movements.
RTK Function
The DJI Matrice 4 offers multiple advanced features:
- Flight Data Display: View flight distance, altitude, speed, and other parameters in the camera view.
- Pause and Hover: Press the Flight Pause button on the remote controller to make the aircraft brake and hover.
- RTK Positioning: Enable RTK positioning by selecting D-RTK, Mobile Station Network RTK, Custom Network RTK, or D-RTK Relay in the settings.
- Night Scene Mode: Tap the Night Scene icon to enable this mode. If set to Auto, it will turn on or off automatically. Adjust the gain using the left dial on the remote controller.
- Thermal and Wide-Angle Cameras: Quickly switch between thermal and wide-angle cameras by pressing the L1 and L2 buttons.
Camera Functions
Tap the Photo/Video Mode button to switch between photo and video recording modes. Use the Playback button to view and download photos or videos.
Tap the Night Scene Mode icon to enable Night Scene Mode. If Auto is selected, the aircraft will automatically turn this function on or off as needed. You can adjust the gain by using the left dial on the remote controller. Use the right dial or press the L1 or L2 buttons to adjust the camera settings.
The camera can autofocus in real time. Double-tap the screen to quickly aim the camera at the subject. Press the L1 and L2 buttons to switch between the thermal and wide-angle cameras.
Infrared and Temperature Measurement
- Spot Measurement: Tap a specific spot on the screen to measure its temperature.
- Area Measurement: Long press the screen, drag to select the area of interest, and view the highest and lowest temperatures within the area.
- Temperature Alerts: Enable the temperature alert function if needed.
Gain Modes
Choose between High Gain, Low Gain, and High Risk modes:
- High Gain Mode: Detects small temperature differences with higher sensitivity but measures a smaller range.
- Low Gain Mode: Covers a wider temperature range with lower sensitivity.
- High Risk Mode: Ideal for distinguishing objects with small temperature differences.
Return to Home (RTH)
Press and hold the RTH button during the flight to initiate RTH. If a low battery warning is displayed, the aircraft will automatically return to the home point. For complex environments, you can cancel RTH and manually land the aircraft.
Post-Flight Procedure
After landing:
- Push the left control stick all the way down and hold until the motors stop.
- Power off the aircraft and remove the propellers.
- Attach the gimbal protector securely.
- Power off the remote controller.
Store the DJI Matrice 4, remote controller, and propellers in the storage case. The case is designed to accommodate the aircraft even when the speaker and spotlight are mounted.
